How to install Peek – An Animated GIF Recorder on Linux

Peek is an animated GIF screen recoder that makes it easy to create screencasts of your desired screen area. If you are looking to showcase a demo feature of your app or games, or even provide a visual presentation of a bug report, then Peek is what you need for Linux machines. Its been optimized for generating animated GIFs for gif lovers. Before we proceed on how to install Peek on Ubuntu, lets take a quick look at its features.

Peek Features

  • Generate animated GIFs from screencast
  • Can record directly to WebM or MP4
  • Used for creating small single short tasks
  • Runs on X11 or inside a GNOME Sheel Wayland session using XWayland

  • package: Removed dark theme hack for Flatpak (proper theme support is part of Flatpak now)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:peek-developers/stable    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install peek

How to uninstall Peek from Ubuntu

sudo apt-get remove --autoremove peek
