29/12/2020
Translation market is becoming more competitive everyday both for companies and language service providers. While working at Smartlation Translation Services I found many freelance translators invest part of their profit in software with good free alternatives they could use instead.

Translation Memory Tools:

OmegaT

OmegaT is a memory tool for professional translators, it allows to save terminology as glossary to be called to autocomplete the translation. OmegaT is among the most popular CAT (Computer Assisted Translation) tools available for Linux, Mac and Windows.

You can install OmegaT on Debian or Ubuntu by running

apt install omegat -y

MateCat & SmartCat

Their advantage is their huge database and dictionaries, MateCat has a database with over 20 billion of definitions. It does not require installation and may be the best option to get started with CAT tools.
